Keystone researcher withdraws, another excused from review of Pebble mine project (The Republic, Oct. 1)

One researcher has withdrawn and another has been excused from participation in the upcoming review of studies released by the group behind a massive mine project in Southwest Alaska. Both David Montgomery’s withdrawal and Daniel Schindler’s dismissal came last month, just weeks before the start of what has been touted as an independent, objective look at the science put forth by the Pebble Limited Partnership. GOP presses EPA on Alaska mine review (The Hill, Sept. 30)

Oversight Republicans in the House are pressing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) about a mine review in Alaska that they argue could spook energy investors nationwide. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and panel member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) are demanding a briefing on EPA’s watershed impact tests for a proposed mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska, according to a letter obtained by The Hill. Read the full story.
