Pebble news this week: Environmental Baseline Document to be released

In Pebble news this week, KDLG radio's Mike Mason interviews Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP) spokesman Mike Heatwole about the impending release of PLP's 20,000+ page Environmental Baseline Document. The document, which includes reports from over 40 firms that conducted research in the Pebble deposit area, will be available online later this week at www.pebbleresearch.com.

Environmental Baseline Studies meetings being web-cast: Jan 31-Feb 3

The Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP) has scheduled four days of "Agency Meetings" to provide an overview of its Pebble Project Environmental Baseline Studies. Meetings start Tuesday, January 31 and will go through Friday, February 3. The long-awaited Environmental Baseline Document is described by PLP as the "cornerstone" of the permitting process for the Pebble Mine development. It includes thousands of pages of environmental data collected in the Bristol Bay area since 2004, on topics such as climate, hydrology, vegetation and wetlands, fish habitat and marine wildlife.

The meetings will be broadcast live by webinar. Members of the public will have the ability to ask questions about audio sound quality, but questions regarding content of the presentations will be limited to agency personnel in attendance. PLP has also stated its intent to post the proceedings to its website, and to provide them on DVD. To request a copy of this DVD, email This email address is being protected from spambots. A Conversation with EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson

Wednesday, January 25, from 4-5 p.m., U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will visit the University of Washington’s College of the Environment to discuss current EPA policies and “Jobs for the Future Green Economy.” This “Town Hall”-style event, held on the University’s Seattle campus, is a part of Administrator Jackson’s ongoing efforts to speak with Americans across the country, especially students, about EPA’s work to protect people’s health and the environment and support job growth.

EPA request for peer reviewer input

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expected to publish a call for public input on potential peer reviewers for its draft Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment in mid-January. That date has been pushed back. According to EPA, publication in the Federal Register is at least "one to two weeks away." Nominations received from the public at that time will go to an independent third party outside of EPA.
