BBNC mailing urges shareholders' vote

The conference includes panels, technical sessions and a poster session around the theme "Ecosystems: Understanding the Cycles."

Tiel Smith, BBNC Land and Resource Manager, will discuss "Mining in Western Alaska," Thursday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Bristol Bay Campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, on a panel that includes Alaska House District 37 (Dillingham) representative Bryce Edgmon, Pebble Partnership CEO John Shively, Former Alaska State Senate President Rick Halford, and Ed Farley, Ph.D., a fisheries biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Pebble Watch team will also be presenting during a poster session, Thursday, September 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Dillingham Elementary School. Pebble Mine in the News: September 1

To help keep readers up-to-date, Pebble Watch offers regular roundups of news articles related to the proposed Pebble Mine:

"Proposed Pebble gold mine faces long, difficult journey" (August 31, 2011 - Alaska Dispatch)
Mining in Alaska isn't as easy as it used to be. Old mines of Alaska lore like the fabled Kennecott copper mine near McCarthy did not face a maze of federal and state regulation. There was no Environmental Protection Agency back in the early 1900s, when Kennecott Minerals Co. mined and milled some 4 million tons of copper ore worth more than $4.5 billion in 2011 dollars. "Northern Dynasty puts stake in Pebble prospect up for sale" (August 31, 2011 - Anchorage Daily News)
A mining company with a 50 percent interest in a huge copper and gold deposit where hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on exploration is trying to find a buyer for the contentious project. Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd. CEO Ron Thiessen said the Vancouver-based company is considered a junior mining company. What the Pebble Mine project needs is a mega-mining company to step in and help move the project forward, he said. Read the entire article in the Anchorage Daily News.
