EPA report ‘pure hubris,' says Northern Dynasty CEO as shares capitulate (May 23, Creamer Media's Mining Weekly)

Shares in Northern Dynasty dropped like a stone on Tuesday, after a US government draft environmental report raised concerns about the contentious Pebble copper project in Alaska, of which it owns half. Dear Interested Parties and Stakeholders,

With the release of Baseline Studies in January, the Keystone Center is resuming its efforts to convene a series of Independent Science Panels on the potential development of the Pebble Mine. On December 3, 2010, the Keystone Center assembled the first science panel on "Responsible Large Scale Mining: Global Perspectives," held at the UAA Library. The panelists examined the principles, practices, criteria and standards by which large-scale mining plans and mining operations are being evaluated worldwide. The day-long panel event was broadcast on Alaska Public Television and is available on the Keystone Center's website at  http://keystone.org/pebble/webcast/responsiblemining.

The series of Independent Science Panels will continue with 3-day panels scheduled for October 2-4, 9-11, and 29-31, 2012.  Specific science panel topics will be released in early summer. The panel events will be held at the UAA Library in Anchorage and will be open to the public. They will also be broadcast by KTOO and will be broadcast on Alaska Public Television.

I will be visiting the region over the summer to provide more details about the Keystone Center dialogue and will be happy to meet with you to discuss the dialogue and how best to participate. Please free to contact me to schedule a meeting or to inquire about the dialogue process.
